Happy 2020! I can hardly believe the holidays are over and the New Year has already begun. Several weeks ago, Baby Boy arrived and we now have a very busy household with a toddler and newborn. It has been an exciting time in my family for sure!
One of my favorite ways to personalize my children’s rooms is to paint and decorate the first letter of their names and then display it on their wall. When my daughter, D, was born, this is what I made for her:
My daughter’s room was (and still is) decorated with the theme “floral fairytale,” so I chose to adorn her letter with flowers and paint it in one of the colors that was prominent in her other decorations and bedding. (I have never been a huge fan of completely pink girl rooms, so that’s why her letter isn’t a common color for a little girl.)
Now that our son, C, has officially joined our family, I made a letter for him too. This is what his initial looks like:
Baby C’s room has an “astronauts and outer space” theme, so I painted his letter to be navy like the night’s sky and I added stars I had painted to match his other decorations and bedding too.
Each child’s letter is personalized for them and they are fun projects for me while I am waiting for them to arrive. I have also made something similar for people’s weddings (using two first name initials for the couple or the last name initial for the couple). This makes a great gift, and it does not take a ton of time or money. It would make a really fun rainy day project for older children or even the whole family would enjoy this on a family activity night. The possibilities are endless and it really is incredibly fun to do!
To make your own personalized letters you will need the following items, which can all be purchased at a craft store or online:
- Wooden letters
- Paint (I really like “Anita’s” brand at Hobby Lobby because it is cheap and works well)
- Paintbrushes
- Small decorations (of your choice to personalize the letter with)
- Glue (using a hot glue gun is highly recommended for this)
Have fun creating!
This is an awesome way to personalize the rooms!!!
Thanks!!
